If you're seeing an error message that says something like this:
Cannot connect to a mobile data network you are not subscribed to a mobile data network
Then you need to make a pretty simple change to the settings on your device. Don't worry - the network people have made it sound pretty daunting but this one's actually really common and pretty easy to fix!
The fix involves resetting your APN.
What's an 'APN' I hear you ask? APN is a tricky telco acronym, it's short for Access Point Name (APN). That's the name for the settings used to set up a connection to the gateway between your carrier's cellular network and the public internet.
When you switch to OVO and put a brand new SIM card into your device, or if you've travelled interstate or overseas, your APN will usually need to be reset.
Resetting your APN
Unfortunately, the exact steps to reset your APN are different for every type of device. Since we don't know what kind of phone, tablet or hotspot you're trying to reset it's a little hard to be exact, but below you'll find some generic steps to follow to help you reset your APN.
General steps to follow to reset your APN:
1. Open up your 'Settings'
2. Navigate to your 'Mobile Data Network' settings
3. Choose the 'APN' settings
4. Type in the APN field 'yesinternet'
5. Hit 'Save'
Once this has been done, you'll be able to use the internet or apps that use data.
Not feeling very confident changing these settings?
If you're not very confident tinkering with your phone settings, that's ok - instead of following the steps below head to google. Try searching for 'how to set the APN on <your phone>' and you should find instructions to follow that will be more specific to your device.
